Franceen Thompson for Parker Town Council

Although it may not be as sexy as a Congressional race, a local town council race is just as important. Here in our Town of Parker, Colorado I’m endorsing and supporting Franceen Thompson. Franceen has the ideas that I believe we need here in Parker. She’s a champion for the conservative values I hold here at The Move Right, she’s heavily involved in our community and I know that I can trust her to stand up to interests that would look to hurt our pocket books.

It’s funny how I finally took notice of this race. It was those pesky signs, I see Franceen at every single event I go to. But those yard signs of hers started popping up all over Parker… (side note Scott Gessler’s yard signs will be available this week.)

Franceen’s views on the PACE center are spot on. Her article on her website is well written and I’m going to quote the whole thing here. I encourage you to support her campaign today.

Pace Center Fallout

First, let me be clear that thanks to the current council; the PACE Center is going to be built.  If we do not build it we will lose the Police Station as well as our bond rating.  It is my goal while on council to make sure that PACE Center is successful and does not wind up costing the taxpayer additional monies/resources that have not already been allocated to the PACE Center.

I served on the Cultural Commission with a great group of individuals that wanted to make a difference in their community.  We believed we could make a difference and help bring new events to the Town as well as reach some demographics we felt were underserved (seniors, adults without young children, teens not involved in sports).  We happened to believe this is what we were supposed to be doing.  Apparently, we were wrong.  What we were supposed to do was agree with whatever the Town presented and only offer input if it was asked for.

While on the Cultural Commission the Chair, Bill Meade and I received a copy of the Webb 2007 Business Plan for the planned Civic Center.  Upon evaluating the plan we decided to go before council and share our thoughts about the viability of building the facility given the flawed financial plan as well as current state of the economy.

Town Council was not happy with our decision to question them and decided that we had crossed the line and wanted us removed from the Cultural Commission.  They wrote a resolution to have us removed; however, they decided to throw the resolution out after hearing Mr. Meade and I defend ourselves.   The following day Mr. Meade and I resigned.

I believe the decision to build the PACE Center should have gone to the voters.  To say the only way we can have a police station is to build a Cultural Center was ridiculous.  It demonstrates that we currently have unprincipled council members who gave into political pressure.

I am posting all of the relevant documents.  If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to contact me personally. Franceen@thompson.cc

The approval of the PACE Center came in August of 2009.  In March of 2010 the Town presented an updated 2010 Business Plan for the PACE Center.  (I would think prior to approving 20+ million dollars for a Civic Center they would want to see the numbers.)

The updated plan is still flawed and does not take into consideration that Lone Tree is building a Cultural Center within 15 minutes of the PACE Center and the impact that will have.

This new updated plan lists the population of the Town of Parker to be 95,216 when the current population is approximately 46,000 (taken from the 2010 Budget).

It assumes the average ticket price for an event to be $35.00 while the current average ticket price for a Mainstreet Center Event is between $8.00 and $10.00.  Another problem that wasn’t questioned that night was that the Town was now subsidizing the PACE Center with and additional $200,000. The Town is now contributing $600,000 instead of the $400,000 that was allotted in the 2007 business plan.  When Town Council was given these numbers; they didn’t seem to care.

The PACE Center is to open in approximately one year and the new business plan calls for $275,000 in donations from other entities (government, individual, foundation, special fundraising and corporate).  This is going to be more challenging now considering the state of our economy and the decrease in charitable giving to the Arts.  Again, there wasn’t anyone on council that seemed concerned enough to discuss the importance of raising these outside funds.

The new 2010 plan also shows a substantial decrease in expenses when compared to the 2007 plan. Combine this and the increase contribution from the Town and the PACE Center actually shows a surplus of $4,682.  Again not a single council member asked why there was a difference.  It is as if they have the misperception, “If we build it; they will come.”

The current council has put us in this unfortunate circumstance and I would like to have the opportunity to help make the PACE Center a success and do what is in the best interest of the Town of Parker and its citizens.

Gessler Calls Decision “A Victory for Colorado’s Military and Overseas Voters.”

press release:

Gessler Calls Decision “A Victory for Colorado’s Military and Overseas Voters.”

DENVER – The Department of Justice announced Friday that it would deny Colorado’s request to delay getting ballots to military and overseas voters.

“The Department of Defense doesn’t buy into the notion that we can’t get ballots out 45-days before the general election. This decision is a major victory for Colorado’s military and overseas voters,” Scott Gessler said Friday. “Bernie Buescher should have solved this problem ten months ago, but now local officials will have to scramble to get ballots out in time.”

Nine states and Washington D.C. filed for waivers exempting them from sending ballots to military and overseas voters 45-days before the general election. Washington D.C. and four other states, including Colorado, were denied the waiver, mandating they follow federal guidelines.

Congress passed into law the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (S. 1415) on October 22, 2009. Six days later, Colorado Secretary of State Bernie Buescher decided Colorado would seek a waiver.

Bennet on Federal Pay—Says one thing in Colorado; Does Just the Opposite in Washington

Press Release for Buck:

Bennet on Federal Pay—Says one thing in Colorado; Does Just the Opposite in Washington

Denver, CO—While private sector workers have been laid off or seen their pay decrease over the past few years, appointed Sen. Michael Bennet has rubberstamped pay raises and fought against pay freezes for federal bureaucrats.

“Giving pay raises to federal employees is a perfect example of why Americans are fed-up with Washington,” said Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck.  “Federal workers make 30-40 percent more than private sector workers for performing identical jobs.  We just can’t afford this type of spending.”

While the average American employed in the private sector only makes $42,290 in salary, the average federal employee makes $66,010.  When you add in the benefits package, the average federal employee makes over $100,000 a year.

In 2010, Bennet fought against two bipartisan measures that would have frozen federal pay for bureaucrats in order to offset costs for the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to offset spending to extend unemployment benefits.   Both measures exempted military personnel from the freezes. In 2009, Bennet rubberstamped a raise for federal employees.

Despite his vote for the federal pay increase, Bennet told a group in Greeley this past weekend, “This is a time when we need to restrain wages in the public sector,” and that we must ensure “our wages are not growing faster than inflation or faster than our growth.”

“Coloradans deserve better from their senator than this type of shell game, especially when they’re paying the bill,” said Buck.

Final: Douglas County Treasurer Candidate Tom Vann Overdraws His Account

This story’s developing, more to come soon… (read Tom’s response to this story in the comment section)

And now for the rest of the story:

Hold on to your hats, this one may just blow a blood vessel.

So we all know how important it is to keep good records as a treasurer, right? Am I missing something here, in assuming that the treasurer should know where they’re spending their money?

Let’s just take a look at this little nugget. On April 12th there are two contributions from two candidate to the Douglas County Republicans (DCR). One from Polly Lawrence and the second Tom Vann. Take a look:

You’ll notice that Mrs. Lawrence, (side note, I don’t support her, but she did nothing wrong here), contributed a check to DCR from her campaign. It’s from Polly For House 44, and the contribution shows on her SOS filling. That’s the appropriate way to file these campaign expenses.

The expense was for a candidate forum, meet and greet thing that the DCR put on called, the “Friday Night Candidate” forum. There was only two candidate exclusively allowed to sponsor the event. Mrs. Lawrence and Mr. Vann. Pat Nohavec, then vice-chair of the DCR, made it a point at this event to thank the two and that Tom Vann and Polly Lawrence were generous and gracious sponsors for the event.

A couple questions before I go on. Why were no other candidates even offered this chance to sponsor the event, why were all the other candidates barred from providing their campaign literature at this event? I’m sure the Norton, Buck, Holbert(s), Ament, Gessler or others would have gladly put up a few bucks to sponsor the event. Were they given that same opportunity? Why would Mrs. Nohavec not allow other campaigns to even bring their literature in? Which two candidates has Mrs. Nohavec endorsed? (and there’s more to come on this at a later posting, for now I’m just asking the questions)

So Mr. Vann my question to you is, why is this expense not on your report? It clearly was before July 15th, so shouldn’t this political activity on your campaigns behalf be notated on your SOS report? If you had filled this properly, would this not make your report overdrawn by $3,097.52? Forgive me if my math is incorrect, I suffer from dyslexia and get confused at times.

My dyslexia aside, if you did write this check from your personal account, did Tom Vann sponsor the event or did your campaign sponsor the event? Did you as a private citizen benefit or did your campaign benefit? Did you distribute your campaign literature as an exclusive “co-sponsor” of the event?

Was this a campaign finance violation, and could someone file a complaint about this? I’m not the elections expert here I’m just asking a few questions.

Last one, if this was an honest oversight, everyone makes mistakes, why would Tom not know about this contribution/expense? Isn’t it the responsibility of the candidate to know where they’re spending their money?

Original Post below:

How is it possible for the candidate for the Douglas County Treasurer overdraw his account? Why would you want a treasurer that spends more that he brings in?

Throughout the last several months I’ve gone from forum to forum, meeting to meeting all throughout Douglas County. I’ve heard Tom speak many times and in just about every speech he touts himself a fiscal conservative, responsible and abundantly qualified.  What qualifies a man, that only has three reported supporters on his SOS filing, and one of them was himself? How do you run a political campaign when only two people in the entire county support you? Well actually only one of his supporters are from this county so he’s got one person that supports him from Douglas County.

You’ll notice Tom is almost fully self-funded, my question is, if you’re self-funded why would you not give yourself enough money to cover your deficit?

Take a look at his supporters and his contributions to his campaign.

Here’s a shot of Tom’s balance Report:

He’s overdrawn by $1597.52, Tom is not a good candidate for treasurer.

Now compare that to his opponent Diane Holbert:

I’m not sure how you read this but I see Diane Holbert, fiscally responsible, with lots of support from many people throughout the county. Then on the flip side Tom Vann is a primarily self funded stock broker that wants to play politician and chose treasurer as his entry point into politics.

More developing, I’ll provide a list of Diane’s supporters It’s a big list and I’m going to consolidate for this blog.

Here’s my rebuttal to Tom Vann’s response below:

First, not a good use of the age card, I don’t care about your age, especially with this issue. Keep to the facts.

Lies Tom? Point them out please, here on this blog. You can’t, can you? You’ve got to post them on your campaign site, where you called this blog a “minor internet publication”. That made me laugh, it’s true, it’s not a widely known blog, but you’ve taken notice. Apparently I’m big enough to force a response from you, and don’t think I don’t know about the recent email you sent out….

The reality of the situation is if you filled the financial report incorrectly for the SOS, whose fault is it? Not mine, it’s yours, I didn’t file your report so I couldn’t possibly be telling a lie. All I did was point out that you clearly overdrew your campaign account according to your finance report on the Secretary of States website. T-shirt bill or not.

You clearly have not exhibited sound leadership skills in trying to clear this issue up. You point out that I didn’t contact you for your side of the story, nope I didn’t. Here’s my reasons, you won’t talk with me. At events you won’t even acknowledge me, because you can’t separate your personal feelings about me. You show consistent anger control issues when I’m around you. I’ll point out one other tidbit, before you responded to my posting on your campaign website, did you contact me, nope you didn’t.

Back to my points, why would you not just give yourself enough money to cover the shortfall of money in your account. If you do have a positive balance in your account, that you didn’t report to the SOS, then did you lie on the report? All I’ve done here is point out the obvious, you spent more than you took in. That’s not a lie.

Another interesting point. You say on your website that you paid or at least received the bill on the 11th of July. Why then knowing that you’d overdraw your account not deposit your self-funded contributions on the 11th showing a positive balance on the SOS report? Are you capable of balancing a checkbook, do you know how to keep a positive balance? Can we really trust a politician that’s going to be in charge of $300 Million of county assets?

Who approached you to run? Was it a party official? Who are these people that asked you to run?  How many people support your campaign? Two, are there more than two?

Two more things, Why do you insist on doing this theatrical claim that you’re for the party and not the

Last one, you point out you’re not a stock broker, however you called yourself that for months on the campaign trail and have switched your title several times.

The AFL-CIO Influence in Thornton Colorado

Here’s a great article from Tony’s Rants.

So what does tens of thousands of dollars buy you with Thornton City Council?  Judging by the actions of some on council Tuesday night, it gets you payback in the form of granting unions inroads to city employees.

City council members that have received significant campaign contributions from organized labormanaged to pass a resolution providing “meet and confer” recognition of unions granting them the ability to represent employees in what amounts to something just short of collective bargaining.  These council members pushed this through despite the potential cost to their constituents (you the taxpayer) and the fact that employees had not even asked for it… (Read Entire Article)

Tony contiunes

The vote talley on the union-backed "meet and confer" resolution.

Thornton Mayor Erik Hansen pointed out that “the resolution is redundant” and as he noted, it isn’t beneficial since many of the provisions in the resolution were already being done.  As Hansen said, if unions want to get in, they should go to the voters and ask for a change to the city charter.

Councilmember Steve Lebsock, much like Tade, didn’t really make much sense with his argument.  He admitted that employees were not unhappy at all saying, “In fact I hear almost the opposite on a consistent basis that we do have good employees here, that they are happy with their employment, they are happy with what is going on.”

If the employees are happy, who is this resolution really for? It obviously isn’t needed for the employee as even those that supported the resolution said employees were happy.  It does nothing for the Thornton taxpayer as they are the ones that will foot the bill.  It does nothing for the City of Thornton as a whole. NBC News Picked Up This Story As Hislop Faces Complaint Filed With Colorado Secretary of State

After the original story broke here on The Move Right, the local NBC affiliate in Grand Junction has picked the story up with some breaking developments.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A complaint was filed with the Colorado Secretary of State against District 54 Colorado House Republican candidate Bob Hislop Monday. Hislop is accused of using his ties to a Secret Service alumni association to raise campaign donations.

Hislop served in the Secret Service for more than 20 years. He has been a member of the Association of Former Agents of the U.S. Secret Service (AFAUSSS) since the early 80′s. Hislop used the organization’s private, members-only message board to solicit campaign donations. (read article)

Thanks to the few who have had their hand in getting this story out.

Did Obama Steal The Election From Hillary?

Another Census Employee Was Fired For Falsifying Info

Earlier today I learned that a Manager from the Aurora Colorado Census Office was fired for falsifying information. Don Corn, a manager for Quality Assurance, was having his employees falsify population counts. To the credit of the employees who were asked to falsify the information, knowing this was wrong they made a complaint to the LCOM (Local Census Office Manager), and Don was fired on the spot.

From my experience as a former Census employee this was not the norm. There is tons of waste, millions of tax dollars needlessly spent and a bureaucratic nightmare that you wouldn’t believe.

Bob Hislop: The Smoking Gun… even more smoke?

Well first of all Coloradopols.com you’re not exactly the most accurate website now are you… Know the law before you fire off a stupid ranting about my website and  somehow trying to discredit me in some way. Nice attempt though. Oh by the way here’s the actual law and a little more evidence for your, how did you put it… “FAILed”, attempt at gotcha politics.

ColoradoPols.com and your contributors, a word of advice, know your facts before you angry bang out a reply. You also say my values are in question. Prove that here on this site then. If have problems with me here, why not say it here, or are you too comfortable on your leftist site? Oh and tell me where I’ve violated my values… point them out, here tonight, on this site. No? I thought not.

And here we go, this time let’s just let the info speak for itself. Since the only thing Coloradopols can attack is me, and apparently not the truth the facts. Notice you have no defense of the RINO stuff… interesting.

More stuff from the AFAUSSS website. Is this a violation?

Bob Hislop: The Smoking Gun

Update 7/5/10: My mission since the beginning has be to allow the truth to be shown here, no matter where that truth takes us. Since this story posted, new evidence has come to light. From all the information that was given to me, and all the information that I was able to secure, all indications were that AFAUSSS is/was a 501(c)3. Even when I asked Bob Hislop what AFAUSSS was, he told me it was a 501(c)3. Since this post went up, there’s been some speculation that the message board is operated by the association and not the foundation, and that the association is a 501(c) 6 or 7. The 990′s prove that AFAUSSS was a 501(c)6 in 2008. Political activity in the form of lobbying is permitted, it must be taxed and reported.

So now in light of this development, my question is did Mr. Hislop report his lobbying for his campaign through AFAUSSS? Is it even necessary? If a 501(c)6 is supposed to help out the business of the particular group or members, what business was Bob in?

501(c)6 is for business leagues: chambers of commerce, real estate boards, and (amusingly) professional football leagues.  Donations are NOT tax deductible, but they have more freedom to engage in political activities (though specifically lobbying for a particular candidate is forbidden). source…

There are a lot of questions left out there, is it legal for an individual to solicit campaign contribution through a 501(c)6?

UPDATE: One More Piece On Bob Hislop

~Alright so this is plan B. I have a great presentation for all of this info, and I’ll be getting that to you guys soon. So now the plan is to just put this information out there and see what happens.~ Paul

Over the last month or so, I’ve been looking into the CO House District 54 race. Thanks to some amazing sources I’ve been able to unearth the truth about Bob Hislop. The bottom line is he’s not proven to be an ethical man, he should immediately drop out of the race. I believe this article will be the catalyst for that. In saying all of that, I’m interested in the truth here, and getting the truth out. If something big came up about Ray, I’d post that as well.

The Ethics Violation and Broken Laws?:

What you’re going to see here is Bob Hislop himself using an online forum to raise funds for his campaign. The law that’s been broken comes into play not because he was raising funds, but because the forum Bob used was a Non-Profit forum. It’s from the AFAUSSS message board. This is a private chat forums which allows it’s members to chat amongst themselves. AFAUSSS is a 501(c)3 organization, which is strictly prohibited in promoting a candidate. Looks like Bob feels he’s above the law though.

Here’s the funny thing about this piece you’re about to see. I met with Bob during Parker Days. He and I sat in a sandwich shop, he bought me a soda, and we talked about him and his race. Near the end of our converstation, I throw out a “hypothetical” to Bob. It went something  like this…

Me: So I’m working this story that I have a candidate that may have raised funds illegally. He apparently went onto this online message board, that’s owned by a non-profit, and solicited funds from people all over the country. Is that a violation?

Bob: Yes it is. It’s a major violation if someone were to do that.

Me: So in you’re view they’d be in violation of the law. If this were to come out, during the election, should that person drop out of the race?

Bob: It would be hard for them not to. It would be a serious ethics violation and they would probably be in some sort of legal troubles.

So here it is folks, The campaign contribution and ethics violation:

Here’s the text:

To all AFAUSSS members,

I have done something that I never thought I would do…I’ve entered the political arena. I am running for Colorado House of Representatives District 54 as a Republican. Here in Colorado and in my district 54, people are suffering with the poor economy, home foreclosures, unemployment and no relief in sight. The Governor and the legislature continue to raise taxes, fees, etc without providing any substantial assistance to individuals, businesses and our industries. I want to get involved and correct the situation.

When I first thought about doing this I talked with a few of you. The comments were varied and interesting. “Are you nuts…do it, you’d be perfect.” “You have the sense to do that job.” “Great!” “What can I do to help?” “How much do you need…the check is in the mail.” Talking with my wife about it brought three days of very interesting conversation. She is standing with me all the way.

I’ve been blessed by having two exceptional careers, obviously like you, with the Secret Service, and the second in private industry with John Paul Mitchell Systems. When I told John Paul about my plans all he wanted to do was help. Other than family he sent me my first political donation check.

There are two other AFAUSSS members that live in District 54. Both of them are committed to and supporting my candidacy. Please visit my website www.hislopfor54.com. I would like to receive support from all of you in anyway you see fit. Of course, there is a Paypal link on the site.

Best regards,
Bob

The RINO:

What would you say if your Conservative candidate said he was a RID? What is that, you say? A RID is a Republican Independant Democrat. What if your candidate that says they’re a conservative said, “…I’m not a liberal or a conservative…” crazy right. There’s no way that a candidate that claimed to be conservative could say something like that…right?…. well…. Here it is:

WAIT IS That an OBAMA Website? No Way, could a conservative be found on a Obama website right? That could only happen one time, right? Well…

Alright like I said this is plan B. I’ll have my presentation up and running ASAP. Stay Tuned.

Colorado House District 54 Race Between Ray Scott and Bob Hislop Part 2

Update on this story: http://themoveright.com/2010/06/29/bob-hislop/

Here are Bob Hislop’s  responses.

Questions to both candidates:

1. Why are you running?

2. What qualifies you for this seat?

3. Why are you a better candidate?

4. How are you going to win?

5. At The Move Right, I’m interested in values.

What are your values?6. Where do your values come from?

7. On my logo I have Faith, Family and Virtue, can you speak to each of those values?

8. Your race has become a little ugly, why is that?

9. Can you put to rest any of the accusations that are being said about you?

10. It’s clear you’ve seen www.notohislop.com what are you thoughts about this site?

  1. I’m running because I’m concerned about our country and our state. The tax and spend liberals are going to bankrupt our country and destroy the fiber of our nation. Colorado faces serious challenges from liberal legislators who believe the only way to fix our economic situation is to tax and fee us into oblivion. This will not work. Lowering taxes, supporting business tax credits and allowing the creative ingenuity of our citizens will jump start industry and bring Colorado back from the brink.
  2. I’m qualified for this seat because I’ve never been a politician. I’ve had two excellent careers. First, as a Special Agent with the U. S. Secret Service. Second, as an executive with John Paul Mitchell Systems, retiring as Vice President of our Canadian operations. I will bring common sense, which is necessary in both business and law enforcement, to the legislature. Additionally, the life experiences afforded me in my two careers will be a bonus for legislative discussions and deliberations.
  3. I’m committing to the citizens of HD 54 that I will work for them 24/7/365. The legislative session is only 120 days, however, during the other 245 days work still needs to be done. Since this is my only job I will be available for all in HD 54. Additionally, I will run, until term limited, so I can earn seniority and be in a position of leadership in the House to help effect positive conservative change for Colorado.  I will always be a citizen legislator and never a professional politician.
  4. By working everyday to spread my message to the voters of HD 54. This isn’t just with yard signs, highway signs, palm cards, radio ads, television ad; it is walking precincts, attending functions throughout the district and being available to all interested voters.
  5. My values are God, Family, Country, Colorado and community.
  6. My values came from my parents. They taught my brothers and sister the foundation we all have, God, Family, Country, Colorado and community.
  7. Faith, I believe that the faith in God, the Supreme Being, is the guide for our lives. Everyone finds faith in their own way and on their own path.  I wear my faith in my heart and mind knowing that God is always with me.  Family, is an important element is one’s life. Our parents, spouses, children, in-laws, etc make our foundation. Without family, life becomes empty. Virtue is the moral character of an individual. The life of honesty, integrity and Christian values measures one’s virtue.
  8. I’ve have taken the “high road” in my campaign. I’ve asked my volunteers to do the same. We live by Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment, Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican.” I can’t speak for my opponent’s reasons.
  9. The distortion of statements, facts, truths and actions is the work of those that oppose my candidacy. When comments are made by persons that don’t sign their names to a document, it is difficult to give them any credibility.  I would suggest to anyone that if they have a question about anything I said or did they should call me or send me an email. All numbers are available on my website www.hislopfor54.com .
  10. It is nothing more than an attempt by my opponent and his supporter to discredit my campaign and my professional career.

Thanks for your interest in my campaign for HD 54.

Best regards,

Bob Hislop

Republican candidate for HD 54

Colorado House District 54 Race Between Ray Scott and Bob Hislop

BREAKING NEWS: http://themoveright.com/2010/06/29/bob-hislop/

I’ve posed these set of questions to both candidates. I’ve only received the response from Ray Scott, although Bob Hislop did promise that he’d send me his responses.

Update: Bob Hislop has submitted his response since the posting of this article. Read That Here

Response from Ray Scott:

1. Self preservation is part of it and I don’t mind saying it. I am a small business owner and I have taken a pounding during this recession. I’ve laid off employees, sold off equipment and watched our income plummet 30%. All I have worked 20 years for is in jeopardy if this economy and government at all levels does not get back to conservative values. I also felt I could no longer be a complainer without backing it up. I have grown children that are struggling and grandchildren that deserve better than what will be left for them 20 years from now. If in some small way I can help I am willing.

2. I have a unique background in many industries that will allow me to view problems from boots on the ground to the board room. I have worked for major corporations such as Conoco and Williams Energy. I am a small business owner in the energy, construction and logistics industries. I understand business is not personal it is about gross margin. I understand government cannot create one job. I understand that each piece of legislation impacts something or someone and must be limited. I understand that to succeed we need free enterprise to lead the way not government programs. I understand the best social program ever created is called a job. I understand we are creating a new generation of helpless because we are helping them be helpless.

3. I am a true conservative. Social, fiscal, pro-life, 2nd amendment and 10th amendment. I understand we are in real trouble not just fiscally but socially in many ways we have lost our moral compass. The progressive movement has and will continue to filter into government if we do not stand together and push back. I have no interest in making friends in Denver we are in trouble and the madness is being perpetuated by a lack of conservatives standing on their principles.

4. I will out work my opponent and make voters understand there is a difference between a conservative and a republican. We have many with an R behind their name that have lost their way.

5. I just read a list of values, 374 of them to be exact. When you go through a list that long you start to realize everyone will have a different set they will apply. The most important that stood out to me were family, faith and dependability. Duty also seems to fit how I feel these days. I feel we all have a duty to get this right or pay a dear price.

6. I feel my parents were the most influential. I lost my father to cancer when I was 18 but in the short time we had his values were amazing to me. My father in law also taught me generosity. He gave without ever expecting a thing in return. My mother of course taught me discipline and determination.

7. Faith is something I really think we learn over time. We are not born with it we take it for granted until we realize something greater than we are is controlling our lives. Family is more powerful than any force of nature it can make or break you if you do not have a family to hold onto. None of us have the market cornered on virtue, we have all made mistakes but must try everyday to let our principles guide us.

8. I don’t know that I would call it “ugly”, more like encouraging. People have been awakened to real politics and what happens behind the scenes. I know as a new candidate I have been enlightened to the system and how it really works. I am also amazed at how just a few can control the outcome of any election. People’s eyes have been opened in the last two years and I believe it is just the beginning.

9. There were some hints early that I had a hidden criminal record. I have never been in the witness protection program so I don’t know how it could be hidden. Other than that zero.

10. It is not the first website I have seen against someone entering politics and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The information is from the candidate’s own actions and words.

Rasmussen Reports: “Ken Buck shows more strength than Norton in match-ups against the Democrats”

Rasmussen Reports: “Ken Buck shows more strength than Norton in match-ups against the Democrats”

Denver—The latest Rasmussen Reports shows Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck leading both Democrat candidates.  Buck leads appointed U.S. Senator Michael Bennet 46 to 41 percent, and Andrew Romanoff 45 to 39 percent.

Rasmussen analysis says: “Ken Buck shows more strength than Norton in match-ups against the Democrats.”

This is the latest poll that indicates Ken Buck is the grassroots choice and that his campaign continues to gain momentum.

Ken Buck won the Republican precinct straw-poll on March 16, and received 77 percent of the delegate vote at the Republican State Assembly in May.

Walt Klein, general consultant for Ken Buck’s senate campaign said, “The only important poll will be on August 10, but these recent independent polls all show that the only candidate gaining ground as the campaign heads to the primary is Ken Buck.”

Chris Holbert’s Commitment to Keep Colorado’s Taxes Low

I applaud Chris Holbert for his commitment to keeping Colorado’s taxes low. If Chris wins the seat, I for one will lookforward holding Chris to his pledge.

Chris has signed the Colorado Union of Taxpayers’ (CUT) pledge, a very high level of standards that our state legislators can pledge to uphold. CUT, www.coloradotaxpayer.org, holds a yearly rating for the representatives and senators that hold closest to their commitments and standard of it’s values. A few are able to rate at least 90%, sadly many rate well below 50%. In that spirit I hope that Chris can hold up to the standards set by Kent Lambert (100%), Bill Cadman (97%) and Dave Schulteis (97%).

Steve Barton Endorses Ken Buck for U.S. Senate

Barton Endorses Ken Buck for U.S. Senate

“I’m Happy to Endorse Ken”

Denver—Today, former U.S. Senate candidate Steve Barton, R-Fremont County, announced that he is endorsing Ken Buck for U.S. Senate.

“I’m happy to endorse Ken,” said Barton, a patent attorney from Penrose.  “Ken would be far better for Colorado and the United States as a whole, than either Mr. Bennet or Mr. Romanoff, because he’s more likely to mind the spending.”

Barton is the second candidate to endorse Buck.  Earlier, former State Sen. Tom Wiens, R-Douglas County, announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy and supporting Buck.

“Steve is a standup-man,” said Buck.  “I’m thankful for Steve’s endorsement, and I look forward to working with him as we take on the Washington establishment.”

Kay Rendleman, Buck’s campaign manager, added, “Ken’s grassroots message is resonating throughout the state, and we are thrilled to have Steve on our side.”

Meet The Knutsons, An Inside Look At Two First Year Delegate’s Experiences at the Colorado GOP Assembly

This last weekend I was given the opportunity to follow Margo and Mitch Knutson around while they attended the 2010 GOP State Assembly in Loveland Colorado. The purpose of the time I spent with them was to get an inside look at what a first year delegate’s experience would be like at this years assembly. Before I want to make it clear that I’m not endorsing any candidate here, this is simply my observations as I documented the Knutson’s experience.

Friday night, once I finally made it up to Loveland, I met up with Mitch and Margo at the BBQ. They were talking with Jeff one of the political directors for the McInnis camp. Of course the topic was around politics, how beautiful the day was and how excited and nervous Margo was for the following day, more on that later. Ken Buck was standing a few feet away and Margo asked if I’d ever heard Ken speak, I said no. So Mitch and Margo went over, taking me along and introduced me to the candidate.

Ken Buck seemed very relaxed, and was quick to get my name and contact info to his PR guy,so I can receive the press releases from the Buck camp. In my opinion this is actually very important, for local bloggers to be on, since we know that the local mainstream media has giving Buck the cold shoulder, well at least until he won in a landslide victory the following day.

At this time all the candidates were headed over to their suites at the Embassy Suites in Loveland, a fantastic setting for this event I might add. Having forgotten their camera back in Franktown, I offered to document the Knutson’s experience that weekend. They obliged, and the many pictures you see below are the result of the next two days.

On Saturday, Margo seemed nervous as she setup to get ready for a fairly big announcement, something that they hadn’t told many people. Of course I knew what she was up to. Once the delegation was assembled, the speeches commenced, the excitement and cheers were offered every time a platitude was raised or rally cry yelled. It was great. One by one the candidates got up and stage, stumped, rallied the crowd and begged for votes and support. Then I saw the Knutson’s were called out of the assembly.

They were asked to head up stairs to the private suites of the stadium. I followed as we were ushered up to the private suite of Scott Mcinnis. You see Mitch and Margo are Co-Founders of the Franktown based Coffee 4 Conservatives, Margo is also an activist with the South-Denver 912 group, both ardent supporters of this swelling grassroots conservative movement. Prior to this day the Knutson’s had been outspoken supporters of Dan Maes, in fact they’ve even been generous financial supporters of Dan’s campaign. For their own reason’s, Mitch and Margo had come to the conclusion that they needed to support Scott McInnis for his gubernatorial bid.

I’m not here to defend them, I will say this however, they didn’t come to this decision easily. They spent a lot of time with both candidates, and they came to the conclusion that they would back Scott. This is what brought us to the suite. Margo was preparing to announce that she and Mitch support McInnis in a very public way. Margo was preparing to take the stage to nominate McInnis for the Governorship of Colorado, and she would do this on stage in front of thousands of people.

This was exciting, and clearly nerve racking for her. She was nervous and paced down the hallway as she practiced her speech. (see the pictures below) Mitch and Margo were able to spend a few moments to collect themselves before going down to be on stage for the nomination. I of course gaining amazing access to the stage, followed them down.

Margo took the stage. In an exhilarating moment not only was she speaking in front of thousands, she was coming out as a supporter for Scott McInnis for the first time in public. Speaking to many people later that day, this truly was a shocking moment. She spoke eloquently, passionately and had a great time as she stumped for Scott. The speech was short and to the point, and I know that she accomplished exactly what she set out to do. Mitch was right behind her the whole time, I know that he was beaming with pride for his lovely wife.

And just like that 12 minutes later everyone was rushed off the stage, and then their delegate duties kicked in. It was time to vote. Their duty to their county was quickly done for the day. I followed up with both of them later and was able to ask a few more questions.

1. Going into the Assembly, how excited were you to be a delegate for the first time?

I was extremely excited to be a state delegate for the first time and apprehensive since I’d never been involved before.  The whole experience was surreal.

2. What were you expecting going into the weekend?

I was expecting to talk to all the candidates, to run into other delegates and alternates I knew, to see a lot of grass-roots folks and expected the delegates to step up and vote for really strong leaders.

3. Once you made it to Loveland, what were your initial observations?

There was a lot of energy around, people seemed truly enthused to be there, there was an excitement in the air but I believe because there were so many “new” delegates, there was a lot of “star watching” too.  I personally felt privileged to be in such an important role.

4, During the BBQ, Mitch made an observation that everybody was picking up their own trash, what can you add to that observation?

Conservatives/Republicans respect their environment and it shows in any scenario.

5. As Co-Founders of Coffee 4 Conservatives and out spoken supporters for the grassroots conservative movement, what were some of your criteria for vetting candidates?

For me personally, I want to know if a candidate is a fiscal conservative, what his experience level is for the job he or she is aspiring to, what their traditional family values are, how does he/she look at the Constitution in upholding the founding principles, what is their “faith” background, how can they bring improvement to the job at hand – their game plan so to speak but I also don’t expect perfection – that’s unrealistic.

6. Once your vetting process started what were your biggest surprises during this process?

It’s not really a surprise, but I certainly was astounded how some candidates can get “very negative” with other candidates right in the same room.  I also couldn’t believe how much time and energy goes into campaigning.  I learned that the candidate “has to be on” all the time and their lives are campaigning “ALL THE TIME.”  I also learned there are some subjects that are very sensitive that candidates have difficulty answering but it was more an observation than a surprise.

7. At the assembly it was clear that your support was highly sought after. Why was that?

For me personally, I think it is due to my involvement in the grass-roots community; I am an honest and credible person who looks at the “whole picture” and not just at one piece of the puzzle and I’m genuine, which people see.  I also have been present at quite a few events over the last year and I think just face time with people contributed to that recognition.

8. Describe your experiences from the time you were invited up to the McInnis’s private box?

I was honored to be invited up there and appreciated being able to meet some of the insiders on Scott’s campaign.  It was nice to meet some of Scott’s family and to realize “he’s just a regular guy”.

9. Describe your experiences from stage of the nomination, and the speech itself.

I was very nervous once I started walking up to the stage behind the Dan Maes’ supporters.  I never waivered on my decision to support Scott — I was speaking from my heart about my position.  It was incredible looking out into the crowd and seeing all the GOP supporters; the energy was remarkable and I absolutely believe I delivered a heartfelt message to all the delegates and alternates.

10. Tell me anything else you wish to say.

The overall experience was amazing and I absolutely love being involved in the whole process.  I think I missed my calling for a career.  The educational learning I’ve received is remarkable.

11. If you’re willing to disclose, who did you vote for.

I voted for Scott McInnis, Ken Buck and JJ Ament.

For me, personally, I loved spending time with Mitch and Margo Knutson. It was an exhausting two days, but it was worth every minute in getting to know my new friends. Since those  two days, there’s been a bit of a back lash against Margo and Mitch. I say, stop the negative banter about them, if you disagree with them, fine, have a good honest conversation with them. Debate them on their stance. But don’t get negative, and certainly don’t make up lies about them. I’ve received several unsubstantiated rumors in email form with false claims about the Knutson’s and I say stop it, stop it now. Unless you really want your names and emails plastered all over this blog.

As I said at the beginning of the post, I’m not endorsing any candidate with the article, I just wanted to tell the Knutson’s story. Frankly my stance on either GOP candidate in that race has not been determined. I’m not sure what side I’m going to come down on yet.
