Members of the Survivors Campus Life Tour were arrested yesterday during a lawful pro-life outreach at a public high school. It does not matter whether you agree with using graphic abortion images or not, this is a violation of their civil rights and an attack on free speech.

The Survivors was founded by Jeff White who is also my mentor and the co-founder of Rock for Life with me.

Rep. Laura Bradford receives an apology from the Denver Police Dept.

In a report on 9news.com on Jan 27th

Police say Bradford was cited for making an illegal turn and making an illegal lane change. Her car was parked and she then took a taxi to her next destination.

Police say the law that kept officers from detaining Bradford was passed decades ago and is part of the Colorado constitution. It was put on the books to keep law enforcement agencies from interfering with state business, including keeping a state lawmaker from reaching the Capitol to attend a vote.

Friday, Bradford was suspended from her post as chairwoman of the House Local Government Committee. Rep. Libby Szabo (R-Arvada) will now serve as chair.

Bradford released a statement on Friday night: “I look forward to continuing my work on behalf of the people of my district and Colorado. I understand the Speaker’s decision, and I look forward to having the facts brought to light.”

And these details today this came out, according to 9news.com on Jan 31st:

“We made a mistake. In [Denver Police Chief Robert White's] words, he’s critically concerned with the actions of the supervisor,” Denver Police Lt. Matt Murray said at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon. “We’ve initiated an internal affairs case, but with all that being said, we were wrong.”

“‘I want to be treated like everyone else.’ She made that statement several times during the stop,” Murray said.

Denver Police learned about the alleged special treatment from the original responding officer.

So Bradford didn’t abuse her power, never used “immunity” or a “get out of jail free card. huh.

Oh oopsies! The cops told a little fib (and are forced to apologize), and the Media including the conservative pundits overreacted. She may or may not have been intoxicated while driving (I’m not minimizing this if she in fact was intoxicated, she should have been arrested), that’s not the point here. We need to get ALL the facts in order to make a smart, wise and virtuous argument for or against a topic.

I’ll ask one more question.

Should Speaker Frank McNulty then apologize for suspending her without getting all the facts as well?

Re-Elect Chris Holbert

Values and Virtues

I’ve laid out what I believe, what do you believe and how does it differ from what I’ve laid out? What did I get wrong? What did I get right?

Check out my stated values on my values page.

“I hold that any movement worth its salt should necessarily be rooted in values, but I contend that virtues should be a higher priority. The Tea Parties, 9-12 Projects and any other conservative grassroots movements are worth nothing if they don’t exercise virtuous actions based on their stated values.” – Paul Prosise

Rep. Chris Holbert Gains Support From The Wrong Sources

I’ve neglected The Move Right for quite a long time. One, out of political exhaustion. Two, out of sheer frustration. Many of you know that I worked on one of the campaigns here in Colorado, it was miserable. The candidate sucked as a candidate and the nature of politics is plainly ridiculous. So because of my frustrations I ran from the political scene for about a year. I did the normal yelling at the tv screen when OWS popped up, and the financial crisis being extended with QE2, and so many more things.

That being said, I’m back in the ring. Not only have I started a new company; Tiny p Productions, that will in part target campaigns that need video support, I’m also back to vetting and supporting candidates that I believe in.

My first project that I took on with TMR, which is really the campaign that brought The Move Right to anyone’s attention, was then candidate Chris Holbert. He is now Representative Chris Holbert of CO district 44. Chris who has since become a personal friend of mine, has meet all of my expectations as a State Representative. Chris Holbert has proven to be one of the most conservative people I’ve ever met, and I’m not even talking about his still short time in office.

Chris is a devout husband to Diane and father to Victor and Carson. He is also very outspoken about his faith, and if you watch him on any given day in the state house, you’ll find him praying under his breath, or even praying for someone in the hallway. This is rare, I’m an ordained pastor, who’s been paid to do that stuff and I’m not sure how bold I am in my faith to step out of a session because someone needs something.

During Chris’ very short time in the Colorado Legislature he’s not only been conservative and an example of faith, but he’s done the unthinkable. Representative Chris Holbert, the politician, fulfilled campaign promises. Yep, you heard that right. Here’s just a few:

2011 Legislative Highlights

Senate Bill 018 to require proof of citizenship for voter registration. Sponsored by Senator Harvey and Representative Holbert, the bill was assigned to the Senate Committee on State, Veteran, and Military Affairs (aka the “Kill Committee”) and was killed by Democrats (Senators Heath, Bacon, and Boyd) on a 3-2 party line vote.

House Bill 1252 to allow the Secretary of State to verify proof of citizenship after voter registration. Sponsored by Representative Holbert and Senator Harvey, the bill passed by the House Committee on State, Veteran, and Military Affairs, then by the House Committee on Appropriations. HB-1252 was then approved by the State House with bipartisan support. From there, the bill was assigned to the Senate Committee on State, Veteran, and Military Affairs (aka the “Kill Committee”) and was killed by Democrats (Senators Heath, Bacon, and Boyd) on a 3-2 party line vote.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 002 to refer to the ballot a measure to require proof of citizenship for voter registration. Sponsored by Senator Lambert and Representative Holbert, SCR-002 was intended to allow the voters to decide wheather proof of citizenship should be required to register to vote. The Resolution was assigned to the Senate Committee on State, Veteran, and Military Affairs (aka the “Kill Committee”) and was killed by Democrats (Senators Heath, Bacon, and Boyd) on a 3-2 party line vote.

Senate Bill 126 to provide in state tuition rates to persons illegally present in Colorado. The bill was passed by the Democrat-controlled Senate and killed by the House Committee on Education. As a member of the Education Committee, Representative Holbert was an outspoken opponent to the bill and did not hesitate to vote against the measure. “We must not provide yet another incentive for people to come here illegally,” said Holbert.

House Resolution 1009 by Representative Holbert. The Resolution encourages the State Board of Education to work with local school districts to adopt standards by which students graduating from high school in Colorado can demonstrate an aptitude and appreciation for American Exceptionalism. Passed by the Colorado House and sent to Governor Hickenlooper, our seven members of Congress, and the State Board of Education.

Now Rep. Holbert may not have been successful in all of his legislative bids, but he did as promised, and I commend him for that.

Chris has also begun to garner support from some unusual places and people. And it’s making the GOP political machine, not just irritated and not just annoyed, but flat out pissed. Especially within the ranks of the “ultra-conservative” Douglas County political system. Chris has stepped out of line, and I love him for that.

One huge issue for the political machine here in DougCo, is Chris’ endorsement from former Libertarian head David K. Williams, now republican activist and Vice-Chair of El Paso GOP. David, along with several other “political outcasts” have banded together to throw their support behind the Representative. In an upcoming event, supporting Chris’ candidacy and continuing election campaign, David and Don Rodgers and others will help Chris in his bid for another term of office. Find the event on Facebook.

Don Rodgers, an outspoken 9-12er and tea-partier, is co-hosting among others. Don had this to say on his Facebook page early on Nov 9, 2011.

I support Rep. Chris Holbert

On 10 Nov, supporters of Rep Chris Holbert are gathering and I am proud to be listed as a “co-host” for the event and although I can not physically attend I am sending the first cash donation to his reelection campaign today. Those who know me understand that I do not do this lightly. Politicians have failed us on many levels and I have become very selective in individuals I support. Watching Rep Holbert closely on every vote this last legislative session proved to me that Chris is not a “politician” , but he is a man of his word and his record is evidence. Chris ran on the values and principles of many in the liberty group community. Those are really just the values and principles most Americans live their lives by and expect of those we elect to represent us. Chris has proved he approaches his duties as an elected official exactly as he promised. He has proved his metal.

America suffers from a leadership crisis in government and we need honest and truly good men and women to step up into leadership roles. We as citizens must also be willing to support these individuals. I do not live in Rep Holbert’s district, but I know we need his leadership in Colorado. I support Rep Holbert and if you are looking for those to support in restoring Colorado to a more limited government and one that truly puts its citizens first, I ask you consider looking at Rep Holbert’s record and how he has conducted himself since taking office.

Don

This upsets people, the machine wants to keep the status quo, Don and Dave are anything but status quo. And I’m sure that’s why they’ve put their support behind Chris. It’s the reason I support him as well. But don’t blindly take my word on Chris. I hope you vet Chris, I’m not even sure I love everything about the man, but he’s got my support. Period.

One last thing, a character example of Chris. I got off the phone with him recently thinking, “wow that was cool.” He told me, “Paul if you think I’m being too stubbron or egotistical, tell me. If I am, and I trust you’d tell me, then I will fall on my face repent and ask for God’s forgiveness.”

I know that this is too “extreme right-winged” conservative crap to many of you out there, but this is one of the best things about Chris. He’s grounded, his faith and family keep him that way. As long as this holds true with him I will support Chris’ continued bid for office.

The Osama Distraction

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Obama administration is using Osama’s death for political gain. (not really a big surprise or unexpected) I warn you to not get caught up in the details of this incident. “Where’s the Photo” or “Who Shot Who”  or “Is Osama vacationing with Tupac and Elvis” It’s all a distraction.

CBS is now reporting that there will be no photo release, and politicians we can’t believe, say they’ve seen the photo and he is dead.

Meanwhile, we still have an un-audited Fed causing QE2, sky rocketing gas prices and many other things that are tearing this country apart. Osama’s death is a convenient distraction for the administration. Stay focused on the task at hand which is ousting the current administration and standing up for our values.

VetTheGov.com takes on Mesa County’s Budget

Striving For Government Effiecincy and Accountability

VetTheGov.com Uncovers a Budget Crisis in Mesa County Colorado

The author of this new website, who I have great respect for his effectiveness in the political arena, has done his homework. If knowledge is indeed power then you’ll be one powerful person after reading VetTheGov.com.

Not only is the last post very will informed, it cuts straight to the bone of government’s inefficiencies. VetTheGov.com has been able to uncover millions of dollars in budgetary shortfalls and misspent tax money.

Beginning with the Landfill/Solid Waste department which for years was the talk of the town for actual good government business, has now become a negative on the balance sheet.  If you look at the this departments budget statement here you will notice that eventually all good government programs end up losing at some point.  The Solid Waste department will charge $3,875,000.00 for services with total expenditures for the program of $4,625,342.00 for a loss of ($750,342.00).  The positives for this catagory are required personnel which has stayed at Seven Full Time Equivalents (FTE’s) and some nice cash reserves.

The writer goes on to uncover,

Animal Services department is budgeted for $912,871.00 with charges for services of $501,100.00 for another loss of ($411,771.00).  The animal services manager annual salary based on monthly gross wages is $111,345.72.  The department also has an animal services director which is paid $72,894.96 annually.  The remaining portion divided up for 13 other positions and operating expenses.  Who would of thought the dog catching business paid so well?  Average response time 28.2 minutes for priority calls.

Here is where it gets interesting!  The Human Services and Health Fund department’s employ 306.58 FTE’s out of Mesa County’s 965.58 FTE’s total.  Combined budgets total $28,203,268.00 in which a large portion of their revenue comes from Federal government grants.  The Human Services department has 220.83 FTE’s with total appropriations of $21,927,203.00.  From this 21.9 million, $16,963,706.00 goes to salaries, benefits, and operating costs.  Only $4,908,165.00 makes it to actual clients.  See Human Services budget here.  There is no charge for services to clients.  The average Director gross salary is $87,515.00.

VetTheGov.com has several more targets in mind and is currently working on uncovering other stories. One current

Colorado bill SB 200 the Health Care Exchange Bill may just be subject to the VetTheGov’s next oversight. In a recent phone conversation I had with him, he said “this bill is nothing more that a open door for Obamacare.” I personally can’t wait to see what VetTheGov comes up with next.

Please support my friend and help expose Government waste and abuse.

Bill Ayers Confesses He Wrote Obama’s Memoirs “Dreams of My Father”

Bill Ayers claims he wrote Barack Obama’s Autobiography Dreams of My Father. He said this in front of over 100 people at a Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) event on March 24, 2011 at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

The “confession” is most likely just a joke, but it’s an interesting comment at least.

CO Senator John Morse Takes More Tax Payers Money

Colorado State Senator John Morse was recently the subject in the Colorado Accountability Project’s latest article.  They discovered that Sen. Morse is collecting money at a rate far higher than any of his colleagues, including both Senate and House leadership members. Morse requested per diem reimbursment, $99 per day, nearly 100 days more than then Speaker Terrance Carrol.

CAP’s report had this to say:

“Most members of leadership only submit for time they spend at the capitol or days when they attend meetings as a representative of the state.

Morse claimed a full 120 days during the legislative session then claimed an additional 211 days, or nearly $21,000, after the end of the session. The majority of those days were labeled as ‘constituent work’ on the reimbursement request; such ‘constituent work’ was not supported by Sen. Morse’s calendars. In fact, days where reimbursements were requested the calendar entries reflected haircuts, dentist appointments and packing and moving.

Recently, Sen. Morse ran an amendment to cut $25,000 from the Attorney General‟s budget. During debate of the same bill, he chastised Secretary of State Scott Gessler for his claims that he could not live on a salary of $68,500. Morse went on to say that Gessler “needed to tighten his belt the way ordinary Coloradans have.”

Sen. Morse has been quick to criticize others while collecting state money at a rate superior to his fellow members of leadership. In fact, Morse requested reimbursement at a rate of 28% greater than then-Speaker of the House Terrance Carroll, 31% greater than President of the Senate Brandon Shaffer and 44% and 68% greater than Republican leadership.”

Why Are Colorado Democrats Protecting Their Appointee?

Update:

Despite a valiant effort by the Colorado GOP Senators, Cevette was confirmed today in the Colorado State Senate. It’s a sad day in Colorado Politics as the Democrats ignore house rules and rubber stamp Hickenlooper’s appointee.

Source: Colorado Senate News

At the confirmation hearing for the directors board of Pinnacol Assurance. John Cevette was answering questions from the panel when, Democrat Senator Lois Tochtrop, stepped over the line breaking senate protocol and advised Mr. Cevette to not answer the questions from Republican Senator Shawn Mitchell.

Senator Mitchell was asking questions about SB 09-281,  according to Sen. Mitchell the bill “would have transferred $500 million from Pinnacol’s reserves to the state’s General Fund.” Senator Mitchell wanted to know Cevette’s position on the bill and Mitchell feels the tax payers deserve an answer. He also questions Mr. Cevette’s ability to serve on the Pinnacol’s Board and continue on with his current job, this could only lead to an “unavoidable conflict of interest”.

Senator Mitchell also had this to say, “If Mr. Cevette continues to assert “staff-principal” privilege when questioned about potential conflicts of interest arising from his role as an advisor to the President, such secrecy will inevitably cast aspersions on the Board’s work.”

During the questioning Senator Tochtrop can be heard interrupting Senator Mitchell and Mr. Cevette, effectively protecting and silencing any opposition questioning to the appointee.

Democrat Senator Lois Tochtrop prevented John Cevette, board appointee and Chief of Staff to the Democrat Senate President, from answering a question posed by Republican Senator Shawn Mitchell.

Senator Shawn Mitchel Questions John Cevette

Senator Mitchell clearly felt this was a serious breach of protocol and has issued a letter to the Senate President Schaffer with his concerns over Senators Tochtrop’s actions.

Listen to the audio: Democrat Committee Chair Lois Tochtrop Protects Democrat Appointee From Answering Questions.

A copy of Sen Shawn Mitchell’s letter is included below:

February 23, 2011

President Shaffer,

I am writing to express my concerns about today’s confirmation hearing for the members of the Pinnacol Assurance Board of Directors.

During the hearing, I asked Mr. Cevette a question pertinent to the position for which he was nominated. The chair of the committee, Senator Tochtrop, informed Mr. Cevette that he did not have to answer the question. Senator Tochtrop did not rule the question out of order; she arbitrarily shielded the witness from answering it. I believe that the members of the committee and the public deserve an answer, as the matter was directly related to Mr. Cevette’s potential role as a Pinnacol Board member.

My question was whether or not Mr. Cevette expressed an opinion to the President of the Senate regarding SB 09-281, the bill which would have transferred $500 million from Pinnacol’s reserves to the state’s General Fund. The matter of whether or not Mr. Cevette approved of the bill at the time, or offered advice on it, is highly pertinent to his potential work on the Board.

Mr. Cevette’s actions in the past regarding SB 09-281 cut to the heart of our concerns about his appointment: that serving on the Board of Directors while continuing in his present job will place him in a position of unavoidable conflict of interest. If Mr. Cevette continues to assert “staff-principal” privilege when questioned about potential conflicts of interest arising from his role as an advisor to the President, such secrecy will inevitably cast aspersions on the Board’s work.

I respectfully request that Mr. Cevette provide the Business, Labor and Technology committee with an answer to my question. We owe nothing less than complete transparency to the public and the thousands of small businesses who have a stake in Pinnacol Assurance’s success.

Sincerely,

Senator Shawn Mitchell

Ted Harvey Declares for State GOP Chair

Leading conservative Senator announces bid to replace Wadhams as State Republican Chair

HIGHLANDS RANCH — Today, Colorado State Senator Ted Harvey announced his intention to run for Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party at the upcoming Republican Central Committee Meeting.

“I am declaring my candidacy for Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party because I know I can unite our party and implement a successful campaign strategy to return the GOP to dominance here in Colorado,” declared Harvey. “I have received encouragement from legislators, county Party leaders, and TEA Party activists who believe that I can lead the Republican Party back to victory in 2012.”

“Liberal Democrats have enjoyed four years of unchallenged success in Colorado, far beyond their party registration. The reason they have been so successful is because they have run better, more strategic and aggressive campaigns than Republicans. I am running to beat the Democrats with better talent, funding and conservative leadership than we have had in the past.  I will return the Republican Party back to the majority.”

“Unfortunately, this last election saw the fracturing of our conservative political base, and whether or not it is warranted, Chairman Wadhams has lost the confidence of our grassroots and many of our Republican leaders.  We did not raise the money and dedicate the resources appropriately to win the statewide and legislative battles that needed to be won.  The Colorado GOP needs a bold new leader that will re-energize our entire Party.

“It’s time for new direction, new leadership and new perspective for the State Party.  I am eager to work hard to unite our Republican leaders and financial supporters with our traditional party activists and TEA Party grassroots under a principled, dynamic and successful GOP banner,” stated Harvey.

“My vision for the party is simple. I intend to unite our base and return authentic conservative leadership to the Party structure.  I will build an aggressive and experienced team of professionals who know how to win elections.”

“Upon winning the election as State Chair, I will step down from my current State Senate seat, roll up my sleeves and take this fight directly to the Democrats.” concluded Harvey.

Sarkozy: Mideast Christians victims of ‘cleansing’

PARIS – French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday that Christian minorities in the Middle East are victims of “religious cleansing”, following deadly attacks on churches in the region.

“We cannot accept and thereby facilitate what looks more and more like a particularly wicked programme of cleansing in the Middle East, religious cleansing,” he said in an annual New Year’s address to religious leaders.

An attack on a Coptic church in the Egyptian city of Alexandria on January 1 killed 21 people. (Read article…)

Bennet Fails to Produce Facts on Negative Ads

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bennet Fails to Produce Facts on Negative Ads

Media Has Called Out Bennet Repeatedly for Negative Attacks

“Unfairly Misleading” – “Sleazy” - “Out-of-Context and Unfair”

DENVER – Ken Buck, Republican candidate for US Senate, today blasted appointed Senator Michael Bennet’s failure to keep his promise to provide support on his website for negative attacks he has launched against Buck. Bennet made the promise to provide facts on his negative ads during the final debate between the Colorado Senate candidates.

Here is what I would like to do– I am going to post every single – the evidence for every single ad that I have run on our website and your viewers can take a look at that and make a decision about they think these are credible or not.”

Numerous media outlets across Colorado have challenged Bennet about his misleading negative ads, and in some cases, even called on him to stop. Ken Buck responded to Bennet’s failure to live up to his promise saying today:

“News outlets across Colorado have called out Sen. Bennet for putting up negative attack ads that are ‘sleazy,’ ‘unfairly misleading’ and ‘out of context,” Buck said today. “Colorado voters expect more out of their elected officials, and I call on Sen. Bennet to stop these attacks immediately. Unfortunately, however, I suspect as my opponent becomes more desperate, we will see more of these unfounded attacks, not less.

“Coloradans face tough economic times and want solutions to out of control government spending, high unemployment, and a weak economy. Since Sen. Bennet is ashamed of his record as a rubberstamp to the Obama agenda, he has made the decision to go on the attack and mislead the voters of Colorado. I have faith that Coloradans will see through this ploy.”

Early in the KCNC debate, Shaun Boyd challenged Senator Bennet on his negative ads.

Shaun Boyd: Senator Bennet there was certainly a pattern to your ads of framing your opponent as an extremist, and I found frankly, some of the claims to be a bit extreme and we are going to take a look at a couple that were in heavy rotation.

Commercial: Ken Buck wants to privatize social security and he even questioned whether social security should exists at all.

Commercial: Ken Buck wants to end federal student loans for middle class kids

Boyd: Ok, so you talked about having your comments taken out of context you used as backup for these basis for these claims some of Mr. Buck’s comments and I think they were taken out of context. He has talked about protecting social security for seniors I think he even suggested that we should be able to will our benefits should we die before collecting on them. On student loans he was not opposed to the loans, I think you know that, he was opposed to a law that put them in the hands of the federal government. How do you defend these claims?

Appointed Sen. Michael Bennet Dodges Debates

Running From His Record, Bennet Backs Down After Just Two Debates with Ken Buck

DENVER—For months, it’s become clear that appointed Sen. Michael Bennet is running away for his record, but now he’s even running away from debates.

The Buck for Colorado campaign worked with the Bennet campaign to schedule as many debates as possible in good faith. Now, the Bennet campaign has announced that the Appointed Senator does not want to give the people of Colorado the opportunity to hear the differences between him and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck.

Bennet, who was appointed to the Senate by Democrat Gov. Bill Ritter, without any input from the people of Colorado, is the first incumbent senator from Colorado in  modern history to dodge so many debates.

“The people of Colorado deserve the opportunity to hear Appointed Sen. Bennet and Ken debate,” said Buck for Colorado manager John Swartout.  “After losing just two debates, it’s clear that the appointed Senator doesn’t want to discuss his failed record of 9.5 percent unemployment and the $13 trillion of debt he rubberstamped.”

Buck thinks that the formal debates are the most important part of the campaign for voters. The Buck campaign has pushed hard for a large number of debates.

Just two debates have been held in 2010—the Club 20 Debate on Sep. 11 and the KOAA-NBC/Colorado Springs Gazette Debate on Oct. 17.  And now the Bennet campaign has agreed to only four more debates—The Pueblo Chieftain, 9 News/Denver Post, Meet the Press and the Denver Chamber of Commerce.  This means that major news organizations, community groups and important geographic regions of the state that have hosted U.S. Senate debates over the years have been turned down by Senator Bennet.

“In 2008, Mark Udall and Bob Schaffer debated 15 times, and in 2004, Ken Salazar and Pete Coors debated 11 times,” added Swartout.  “In 2010, Michael Bennet will make history by committing to fewer debates than any other incumbent senator from Colorado in modern history.  Coloradans deserve a senator who won’t hide from them.”

Please see below for additional information about scheduled debates and debates that Bennet is dodging.

Has Dan Maes Been Telling The Truth All Along?

Dan Maes just realeased another email. Here are my questions.

Is Dan trustworthy?

As a republican am I automatically supposed to support Dan Maes?

Do you believe the media in all of this?

Why should or shouldn’t I support Dan Maes?

Has Dan’s credibility been irreparably damaged, deserved or not?

What role has the media played in this mess, has the media been truthful with Dan’s past?

Are the republicans been “triangulated” with all of this?

Is Dan even a viable candidate seeing that he’s now 3rd in the polls?

Here’s the email that Dan just released:

Maes told the truth from the beginning September 18, 2010
Maes told the truth from the beginningThe Denver Post is out with a curious article on my time in Liberal Kansas. Among various allegations lobbed by ex-cons and others individuals of questionable character, the Post has, in fact, corroborated what I’ve been saying all along. But don’t take it from me this time, take it from John Hardy, one of my fellow officers in Liberal. From the article:

John Hardy, 52, wasn’t party to the investigation, but he was a master watch commander with the Liberal police at the time. He said top officers knew the KBI was in town helping with a gambling investigation.

When it became clear that the family being investigated were Maes’ future in-laws, some officers worried about how Maes was taking the news. Shortly after, Maes was gone.

“To settle the troops down, they said Dan was part of the investigation (and) he was fine,”

Why the Post chose to bury this vindicating information at the bottom of the article, I can only guess. Instead they chose to spend most of the piece discussing a completely spurious claim by an old cop with an axe to grind who says I leaked information. This, like most everything else that’s been printed about me in the media, is false.

Further, after the Associated Press spent a few days in Kansas investigating my story, the KBI has finally confirmed their involvement in a bookmaking investigation in Liberal.

In other words, after weeks of dragging my name through the mud, much of my story – a story that hasn’t changed from the beginning – has been confirmed by the press. Maybe now we can stop focusing on a job I had a quarter-century ago and start talking about how to get Colorado back to work today.

Potshots from a minor party candidate and liberal forces in the press can’t hide the truth. And the more information that comes out, the more clear it becomes that I’ve been a man of character who has spoken the truth all along. My “yes” has always meant yes, and my “no” has always meant no.

Folks, thanks for sticking with me through these rough times that we can now put behind us. I’m proud that so many of my supporters believe in my vision for jobs and the economy, and aren’t distracted by these sideshows in the press. I’ve been focused on the issues throughout this campaign, and that’s where my focus will be for the next six weeks. Together, we will take this state back for its people and get our economy back on track.

Buck Wins First Debate With Bennet In Grand Junction

Ok so I was at the debate, I’d love to share my insights, but frankly I don’t have the energy. Instead I’ll provide you what the Buck Campaign just produced, then I will attempt to sleep while I watch something on HBO at the Holiday Inn Express (shout out to Kelly Maher, who got to stay in the Ramada…)

Press Release from Ken Buck:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Saturday, September 11, 2010

Buck Clear Winner in First Debate

Grand Junction, CO—Tonight, U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck and appointed Senator Michael Bennet squared off at the Club 20 debate, the first of the general election.  The debate highlighted the stark contrast between Buck and the appointed senator.

During the debate, Buck laid out his plan to get Coloradans back to work and to bring Washington’s spending under control.

Buck was pleased with the outcome of the debate–

“It was good to get the record straight,” said Buck.  ”Folks are tired of Washington politicians distorting facts and not owning up to their record.  Sen. Bennet has proven time and again that he is a rubberstamp for the Washington establishment.  Colorado deserves a senator who will work for them.”

“Michael Bennet’s strategy is to lie about Ken Buck’s record, and runaway from his own,” said Buck campaign manager John Swartout. “Tonight, Bennet said that the three fact checks and Denver Post editorial on his misleading spot were wrong.  The people of Colorado cannot believe Michael Bennet.”

“Ken put forward a clear plan to get Coloradans back to work and to get Washington’s spending under control, problems that Sen. Bennet has neglected to solve,” added Swartout.

REALITY CHECK

CLUB 20 DEBATE

BUCK WINS DEBATE.

BENNET ON FUNDING INFRASTRUCTURE

Bennet Says Infrastructure Needs To Be Maintained, But He Voted Against Using Unspent Stimulus Money To Fund Infrastructure

Bennet Says He Won’t Support Another Stimulus, But Bennet Said He Would Support Additional Stimulus Funding For “Infrastructure”:

The Denver Post: “Well, let’s talk about that $13 trillion deficit and lack of investment in infrastructure. Can we, as a country, given that deficit and debt, afford to push forward with more stimulus spending?” (“A Conversation With Michael Bennet,” www.denverpost.com, The Denver Post, 7/25/10)

Bennet: “I don’t think we can.” (“A Conversation With Michael Bennet,” www.denverpost.com, The Denver Post, 7/25/10)

The Denver Post: “What if it’s for infrastructure?” (“A Conversation With Michael Bennet,” www.denverpost.com, The Denver Post, 7/25/10)

Bennet: “Well, that’s a different question. I think if [it’s] an investment in our infrastructure, that’s something I’m happy to talk about.” (“A Conversation With Michael Bennet,” www.denverpost.com, The Denver Post, 7/25/10)

  • Bennet: “I think we are going to need to think differently about just the infrastructure question — for example, how we approach it — because we are in such a deep hole as it is that it’s hard to imagine how we’re going to catch up. And there’s been some discussions over the last month about things like creating an infrastructure bank that could be capitalized by public money but also allow private money to participate and invest … to figure out how to deal with our capital needs.” (“A Conversation With Michael Bennet,” www.denverpost.com, The Denver Post, 7/25/10)

And In 2009, Bennet Voted Against Using Unspent Stimulus Funds To Pay For Infrastructure:

Bennet voted six times against rescinding some of the unspent stimulus funding to pay for other vital spending priorities: unemployment benefits, see 2009 vote 250 and 2010 votes 106 and 210; highways, see 2009 vote 249; and tax cuts, see 2010 votes 33 and 37.

  • Senate Vote 249 – “To temporarily protect the solvency of the Highway Trust Fund” Amendment Rejected, Bennet Voted Nay, 7/30/09.

BENNET ON SPENDING

Bennet: “I Voted To Cap Discretionary Spending”

The Reality: In 2009, Michael Bennet repeatedly voted against caps on federal spending and against spending freezes.  Note that these are not cuts—they just cap the increase in federal spending or freeze the government’s spending to its current level.

Bennet ended 2009 with a Christmas Eve vote to raise the country’s debt limit by $290 billion.  See 2009 vote 397.  But Bennet’s Christmas present to the American taxpayer didn’t last long.  One of the first actions Congress had to take after returning from its Christmas break was to raise the deficit limit again, this time by $1.9 trillion to $14.3 trillion in total.  See 2010 vote 14.

Leading up to the second debt vote, Bennet tried to insulate himself further from voters by flip-flopping on federal spending freezes.  After voting against four separate caps and freezes throughout 2009, Bennet voted for his first discretionary spending freeze literally one hour before he voted in favor of the $1.9 trillion debt ceiling increase.  In 2010, Bennet went on to vote for three more discretionary spending freezes.  Notably, all of the freezes Bennet voted for failed and were thus “safe” votes.  See 2010 votes 11, 42, 57, and 181.

Bennet’s 2009 votes against spending caps and freezes were the following:

n  Bennet twice voted against capping the rise in certain discretionary spending at around inflationSee 2009 vote 132, limiting non-defense, non-veteran spending increases to inflation; 2009 vote 259, limiting discretionary agriculture spending to a 2% increase.

n  Bennet twice voted against freezing non-defense, discretionary spending for two years, and then letting it grow by 1% for the next three years.  See 2009 votes 120 and 166.

n  Bennet voted against against a five-year discretionary spending freeze after the economy produced two consecutive quarters of 2% GDP growth.  See 2009 vote 40.

n  Bennet voted against a permanent cost of living freeze for members of Congress (i.e., it would have forced Congress to vote for its own pay increases).  See 2009 vote 95.

Bennet voted eight times against limiting various federal spending to the prior year’s appropriations level: across-the-board discretionary spending, see 2009 votes 74, 75, and 76 and 2010 votes 59 and 193 (note: the 2010 vote limited FY 2010 expenditures to FY 2008 levels); Transportation Department and HUD spending, see 2009 vote 282; Interior Department spending, see 2009 vote 296; Commerce, State, and Justice Departments, see 2009 vote 319.

BENNET ON HIS VOTE FOR THE MURTHA AIRPORT

Bennet: “It was certainly not of interest to me.”

Bennet voted for a $1.5 million per year in subsidies for John Murtha Airport—an airport named after an ethically-challenged former Congressman, that sends commercial flights only to Washington, D.C.,

and where the feds subsidize each ticket to the tune of $100?

2009 Senate Vote 284, see ABC’s devastating report on the pork project here:

BENNET HOPES TO ATTRACT INDEPENDENT VOTERS

Bennet Said He Plans On Attracting Independent Voters But Voted With Congressional Democrats Nearly 92% Of The Time

During The Current Congress, Bennet Voted With The Democratic Party 91.7% Of The Time. (The Washington Post’s Votes Database, www.washingtonpost.com, Accessed 9/7/10)

BENNET ON THE ESTATE TAX

Bennet Said He Was In Favor Of Cutting The Estate Tax

But Bennet Voted Against Cutting The Estate Tax Three Times (2009 Vote 146; 2009 Vote 213; 2009 Vote 39)

BENNET ON CAP-AND-TRADE

Bennet: “I didn’t support the cap-and-trade bill that passed in the House.”

But Bennet Supports Cap-And-Trade Proposals:

Bennet: “And I Do Think That A Comprehensive Energy Bill That, Among Many Other Things, Prices Carbon Pollution And Incentivizes Investments In Clean Energy That Will Help Create Jobs And Diminish Our Reliance On Foreign Oil Would Be A Good Step Forward.” (Ed Sealover, “Election 2010: Where Colorado’s Senate candidates Stand On Business Issues,” Denver Business Journal, 9/7/10)

June 2010: “Bennet Said Thursday He Supports The ‘Most Aggressive’ Renewables Bill In The Senate, The 25 Percent-By-2025 Plan.” (Michael Booth, “Colo. Democratic Senate Candidates Vie Over Alternative-Energy Proposals,” The Denver Post, 6/11/10)

During An April 2010 Democratic Primary Debate, Bennet Said It Is “Enormously Important That We Tax Carbon And That We Have A Cap . . . That Would Be Accomplished Through A Carbon Tax,” Or “Accomplished Through Cap-And-Trade.” (37:56) Moderator: “What is your stance on carbon tax?” Bennet: “I think it’s enormously important that we price carbon and that we have a cap and that could be accomplished through a carbon tax, it could be accomplished through cap-and-trade, it could be accomplished through something called cap-and-dividend.” (Colorado Democratic Primary Debate, www.youtube.com, Accessed 9/9/10)

Bennet Supported The Boxer-Kerry Climate Control Legislation. “The Boxer-Kerry legislation would hike emission cuts to 20 percent below 2005 levels from the 17 percent target in the House. It aims at reducing smokestack emissions of carbon dioxide 20 percent by 2020 and 83 percent by 2050 from 2005 levels. . . . U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet did not attend the news conference on Capitol Hill yesterday, but in a statement told the Denver Daily News that he is supporting the bill.” (Peter Marcus, “Colorado Dems Rally Behind Climate Bill,” Denver Daily News, 10/1/09)

  • Bennet: “It’s time for a new way forward . . . . It’s time we harness the potential of our entrepreneurial spirit and our abundant clean energy resources to create a more sustainable path for the future. We can and must lead the world to a new energy economy.” (Peter Marcus, “Colorado Dems Rally Behind Climate Bill,” Denver Daily News, 10/1/09)

The Boxer-Kerry Cap-And-Trade Bill Bennet Supports Has Been Roundly Criticized, Including By Farm Groups And Taxpayer Advocacy Groups:

The Boxer-Kerry Climate Control Legislation “Goes Beyond The So-Called Waxman-Markey Bill.” (Peter Marcus, “Colo. Dems Rally Behind Climate Bill,” Denver Daily News, 10/1/09)

The American Farm Bureau Federation Said Farmers “Fare Even Worse In The Senate [Cap-And-Trade] Bill” Than In The House Bill. “The American Farm Bureau Federation, which opposed legislation in the House as well, said the Senate bill is worse. ‘America’s farmers and ranchers did not fare that well in the House-passed climate change bill and they fare even worse in the Senate bill,’ said American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman. ‘There are few benefits and even greater costs to agriculture and the American public.’” (Marc Heller, “Gillibrand A Key Player In Climate Bill,” Watertown [NY] Daily Times, 10/4/09)

Rick Krause Of The American Farm Bureau: “The ‘Clean Energy Jobs And American Power Act,’ Introduced By Sens. Kerry And Boxer, Will Cost American Farmers And Consumers Without Providing Any Corresponding Benefits.” (Rick Krause, Op-Ed, “Kerry-Boxer Will Cost Farmers, Consumers,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/7/09)

  • “Farmers And Ranchers Would Be Particularly Impacted As A Result Of Such Legislation. Agriculture is an energy intensive business that will be particularly hard hit because of farmers’ many costs, which include fueling their tractors, providing their crops with fertilizer and crop protection, irrigating crops and caring for their animals.” (Rick Krause, Op-Ed, “Kerry-Boxer Will Cost Farmers, Consumers,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/7/09)
  • “Some Estimates Predict Increased Food Prices Of $33 Billion A Year By 2020 And $51 Billion A Year By 2030. And What Do We Get For These Costs?  Very Little.” (Rick Krause, Op-Ed, “Kerry-Boxer Will Cost Farmers, Consumers,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/7/09)
  • “This Is Not A Climate Bill. Scientists Calculate That This Bill Will Have An Impact On Climate Of Less Than 0.2 Degrees By 2100.” (Rick Krause, Op-Ed, “Kerry-Boxer Will Cost Farmers, Consumers,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/7/09)
  • “This Is Also Not An Energy Bill. While reducing emissions will reduce the use of coal and oil, it does nothing to ‘plug the hole’ that will be left by reducing those sources.” (Rick Krause, Op-Ed, “Kerry-Boxer Will Cost Farmers, Consumers,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/7/09)

“‘It [Boxer And Kerry’s Legislation] Just Seems Totally Out Of Touch With Reality,’ Said Glenn English, CEO Of The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Which Represents Hundreds Of Coal-Dependent Utilities.” (Christa Marshall and Jessica Leber, “Senate Draft Of Climate Legislation Makes Unofficial Debut,” The New York Times, 9/30/09)

Pete Sepp Of The National Taxpayers Union: “[W]e Would Be Foolish To Forget About The Other Looming Nightmare For Taxpayers Across America: Cap-And-Trade, More Appropriately Termed The National Energy Tax.” (Pete Sepp, Op-Ed, “New Boxer-Kerry Bill Endangers Taxpayers And The Economy,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/8/09)

  • Sepp: “Plain And Simple: America Can’t Afford The Boxer-Kerry Bill.” (Pete Sepp, Op-Ed, “New Boxer-Kerry Bill Endangers Taxpayers And The Economy,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/8/09)
  • Sepp: “[T]he Boxer-Kerry Bill Entitled The ‘Clean Energy Jobs And American Power Act,’ Which If Passed Would Condemn Taxpayers To Poverty And The American Economy To Oblivion.” (Pete Sepp, Op-Ed, “New Boxer-Kerry Bill Endangers Taxpayers And The Economy,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/8/09)
  • “[I]t Is Easy To Make The Argument That Cap-And-Trade Legislation Would Exert More Control Over A Bigger Sector Of Our Economy Than Even The Most Radical Proposals For National Health Care.” (Pete Sepp, Op-Ed, “New Boxer-Kerry Bill Endangers Taxpayers And The Economy,” The Hill’s Congress Blog, www.thehill.com, Posted 10/8/09)

“The Airline Industry Is Pushing Back Against The Senate’s Climate Change Bill, Claiming A Proposed Cap-And-Trade System Could Cost Carriers As Much As $5 Billion.” (Kathryn Wolfe, “Airline Industry Wary Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade System In Climate Bill,” Congressional Quarterly Today, 10/2/09)

Cap-And-Trade Legislation Could Negatively Impact Colorado:

NOTE: Although different from Boxer-Kerry, studies of the house cap-and-trade bill, Waxman-Markey, have shown it could inflict large negative impacts on Colorado’s economy…

Beacon Hill Institute: A Proposal Like Waxman-Markey Would “Inflict Large Negative Impacts On The Economy Of Colorado.” “Cap-and-trade is aimed at reducing the consumption of fossil fuels by increasing their prices and thus, in turn, the prices of energy and of all goods and services. A Cap-and-trade proposal such as Waxman-Markey would therefore inflict large negative impacts on the economy of Colorado. The state would experience significant declines in employment, wages, disposable income and investment upon implementation of the policy.” (The Beacon Hill Institute, “The Economic Effects Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade Legislation On The State Of Colorado,” www.beaconhill.org, 6/09)

  • Carbon Taxes Would Cost The Residents Of Colorado $1.959 Billion In 2020. “We find that the cap-and-trade system would impose a tax of $92.66 per metric ton of carbon in 2020 in order to reach the 20% emissions reduction goal. The cost of carbon would rise to $714 in 2050 to reduce emissions by 83% below 2005 levels. These carbon taxes would cost the residents of Colorado $1.959 billion dollars in 2020 and $17.219 billion by 2050 through increased energy prices.” (The Beacon Hill Institute, “The Economic Effects Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade Legislation On The State Of Colorado,” www.beaconhill.org, 6/09)
  • “These Increased Energy Prices Would Inflict Significant Harm On The Colorado Economy. The State Economy Would Shed 11,976 Jobs By 2020 And 174,163 By 2050.” (The Beacon Hill Institute, “The Economic Effects Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade Legislation On The State Of Colorado,” www.beaconhill.org, 6/09)
  • “The Decrease In Labor Demand, As Seen In The Job Losses Would Cause Gross Wages Per Person To Fall By $165.45 Per Capita Annually By 2020 And $1,453.98 By 2050.” (The Beacon Hill Institute, “The Economic Effects Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade Legislation On The State Of Colorado,” www.beaconhill.org, 6/09)
  • Real Disposable Income Would Fall By $1.16 Billion Per Year By 2020. “The job losses and price increases would combine to reduce real incomes as firms, households and governments spend more of their budgets on energy and less on other items, such as home goods, entertainment and clothing. As a result, real disposable income would fall by $1.16 billion per year by 2020 and $10.195 billion by 2050.” (The Beacon Hill Institute, “The Economic Effects Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade Legislation On The State Of Colorado,” www.beaconhill.org, 6/09)
  • “[A]nnual Investment In The State Would Fall By $151.08 Million By 2020 And $1.327 Billion By 2050.” (The Beacon Hill Institute, “The Economic Effects Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade Legislation On The State Of Colorado,” www.beaconhill.org, 6/09)
  • “By 2020, The State Of Colorado Can Expect Annual Tax Revenues To Fall By $82.97 Million, While Local Governments Would Lose $84.71 Million In Tax Revenue, For A Combined State And Local Revenue Loss Of $167.69 Million. By 2050, the state and local government tax revenue losses would swell to over $1.473 billion, with the state losing $729.15 million and local governments losing $744.46 million.” (The Beacon Hill Institute, “The Economic Effects Of Proposed Cap-And-Trade Legislation On The State Of Colorado,” www.beaconhill.org, 6/09)
